Probing Systematic Bias in Low-redshift Type Ia Supernova Measurements by Cross Analyzing Surface Brightness and Hubble Residuals

چکیده
For low-redshift (z < 0.1) Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) samples used in several cosmological analyses over the past decade, we probe for systematic bias by looking correlations between surface brightness (SB) measurements and Hubble residuals (HR). 292 SNe Ia, measure SB at location of SN from publicly available Pan-STARRS (PS1) images. The are two recent with low-z that overlap PS1 footprint: 1) DES 3-year cosmology analysis, 120 overlapping Harvard-Smithsonian Center Astrophysics surveys Carnegie Supernova Project, 2) single-telescope 172 Foundation Survey. This study is motivated previous reports anomalous inefficiencies flux scatter transients on bright galaxies. We compare HR distributions faint halves distribution: mean values differ Delta = 0.031 +- 0.018, consistent no difference 2 sigma level. also perform a Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test half distributions, conclude statistically KS p-value 0.07. However, if future studies larger datasets find ~ 0.03 high significance, this would be leading uncertainty dark energy equation state, w.

Surface detonation in type Ia supernova explosions?
We explore the evolution of thermonuclear supernova explosions when the progenitor white dwarf star ignites asymmetrically off-center. Several numerical simulations are carried out in two and three dimensions to test the consequences of different initial flame configurations such as spherical bubbles displaced from the center, more complex deformed configurations, and teardrop-shaped ignitions....
متن کاملPhotometric selection of high-redshift Type Ia supernova candidates
We present a method for selecting high-redshift type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) located via rolling SN searches. The technique, using both color and magnitude information of events from only 2-3 epochs of multi-band real-time photometry, is able to discriminate between SNe Ia and core collapse SNe. Furthermore, for the SNe Ia, the method accurately predicts the redshift, phase and light-curve param...
متن کاملThe Hubble Constant from Sze Measurements in Low-redshift Clusters
We present a determination of the Hubble constant from measurements of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich Effect (SZE) in an orientation-unbiased sample of 7 z < 0.1 galaxy clusters. With improved X-ray models and a more accurate 32-GHz calibration, we obtain H0 = 64 +14 −11 ± 14syskmsec Mpc for a standard CDM cosmology, or H0 = 66 +14 −11 ± 15syskm sec Mpc for a flat ΛCDM cosmology. The random uncertainty ...
متن کاملHubble Space Telescope studies of low-redshift Type Ia supernovae: evolution with redshift and ultraviolet spectral trends
We present an analysis of the maximum light, near-ultraviolet (NUV; 2900 < λ < 5500 Å) spectra of 32 low-redshift (0.001 < z < 0.08) Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) using the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph. We combine this spectroscopic sample with high-quality gri light curves obtained with robotic telescopes to measure SN Ia photometric parame...
متن کاملSUPERNOVAE IN LOW-REDSHIFT GALAXY CLUSTERS: THE TYPE Ia SUPERNOVA RATE
Supernova (SN) rates are a potentially powerful diagnostic of star formation history (SFH), metal enrichment, and SN physics, particularly in galaxy clusters with their deep, metal-retaining potentials and simple SFH. However, a low-redshift cluster SN rate has never been published. We derive the SN rate in galaxy clusters at 0:06 < z < 0:19, based on Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) that were disco...
